LILONGWE, MALAWI – As stakeholders prepare for the upcoming 2026 Malawi National Energy Conference under the theme “Powering Growth: Mainstreaming Energy Across Sectors,” Sun King Malawi has officially solidified its support with a MWK 20 million in-kind sponsorship package.
The announcement was made during an official handover ceremony featuring key representatives from both Sun King Malawi and the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA). Under the terms of the agreement, Sunking is supplying 300 SunKing Pro solar lamps to be gifted to all registered conference delegates.
A Shift Toward High-Impact, Tangible Sponsorship
Speaking on the partnership, Collins Moyo, Marketing Lead for Sun King Malawi, emphasised Sun King Malawi’s long-standing history as a foundational partner for Malawi’s national energy discussions.

“Sun King Malawi has been a proud supporter of the National Energy Conference since its inception,” noted Moyo. “This year, we made a strategic decision to transition from traditional cash sponsorship to an impactful in-kind model. By placing 300 high-quality SunKing Pro solar lamps directly into the hands of industry leaders, policymakers, and partners, we are providing a practical tool that outlasts the event itself. It serves as a continuous reminder of our collective responsibility to expand clean energy access across the country.”
Direct Budgetary & Strategic Benefits for REIAMA
Receiving the sponsorship on behalf of the association, Charles Dakalira, Executive Director of REIAMA, applauded Sun King Malawi’s consistent leadership within the off-grid solar ecosystem. He noted that the contribution provides dual benefits, directly lowering event execution costs while reinforcing core policy messages.

“In organizing an event of this scale, providing delegate packages such as solar lights, bags, and conference materials, demands significant financial allocation,” explained Dakalira. “Sun King Malawi’s contribution directly offsets these operational expenses, freeing up resources within our event budget while ensuring every delegate leaves with a top-tier solar product.”
Dakalira added that the physical products carry a broader narrative for the sector:
“Beyond the immediate utility to attendees, these solar lights serve as concrete evidence of what renewable energy technology can achieve. Every time a participant uses their SunKing light, it reinforces the message that decentralized clean energy is a reliable, scalable solution to our national energy needs.”
Powering National Development
With national electricity access in Malawi currently around 25%, the 2026 conference aims to position renewable energy as a central driver across key productive sectors, including agriculture, health, education, and trade. Sun King Malawi’s contribution highlights the critical role off-grid solar solutions play in filling immediate energy gaps while long-term infrastructure continues to develop.
