Under the “Putting Energy to Work” Project funded by GIZ-EnDev, the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA) successfully hosted a student lecture and technology showcase session at Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Thyolo on the 8th of May 2026.
The session aimed at exposing students to practical applications of Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) technologies while bridging the gap between academia and industry and inspiring the next generation of renewable energy innovators and entrepreneurs in Malawi. The event brought together students, lecturers, and renewable energy companies for interactive presentations, technology demonstrations, and discussions on Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) technologies and opportunities in Malawi.
Several presentations were delivered by REIAMA and participating companies, focusing on renewable energy technologies, business models, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the relevance of the PURE Roadmap to academia and national development. Participating companies included EcoGen Malawi Limited, RECAPO, Zuwa Energy and Self-Help Africa. Speaking during the event, Dr Taulo the Head of Department in Energy Resources encouraged students to actively engage with industry professionals to strengthen collaboration, research, and innovation in the renewable energy sector. The session successfully bridged the gap between theory and practice while inspiring the next generation of renewable energy innovators and entrepreneurs in Malawi.
