At REIAMA, we host high-impact national and regional conferences that bring together key players in the renewable energy sector — from policymakers to innovators and industry leaders. These platforms foster dialogue, partnerships, and bold action towards a more sustainable and energy-secure Malawi.

We are committed to strengthening skills and knowledge in the energy ecosystem. Through tailored training programs, mentorship, and hands-on learning opportunities, REIAMA empowers professionals, youth, and entrepreneurs to thrive in the renewable energy space.

Our interactive workshops are designed to spark innovation, share best practices, and build technical capacity across the sector. From policy understanding to technical installations, REIAMA workshops are open, inclusive, and impactful.

OUR RECENT PROJECTS

The GIZ-EnDev Malawi is supporting the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA) in implementing “Putting Energy to Work” project that is aimed at improving access to needs-based climate-friendly technologies and services for productive use of Renewable Energy (PURE) and, thereby, contribute to modernisation and industrialisation of the Malawi economy. The key project deliverables include formulation of an active Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE) Technical Working Group (TWG), development of a PURE Roadmap, development of catalogue of PURE Technologies for tax exemption and development of standard business cases.

The Scottish Global Renewables Centre (GRC) through the University of Strathclyde is implementing a renewable energy knowledge exchange program in Malawi, Zambia, and Rwanda. In Malawi, the programme is being implemented by the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA). The initiative aims to address challenges hindering the adoption of renewable energy decentralised generation (DG), mini-grids, and standalone systems (SAS) by facilitating knowledge sharing and capacity building among key stakeholders to increase energy access and attainment of SDG 7.

The Global Off-Grid Lighting Association and the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi partnered to implement the Institutional Support to NREAs Project supported by Shell Foundation’s Market Institutions’ Facility. Through this project, GOGLA aims to continue building the institutional capacity of NREAs across the decentralized renewable energy (DRE) sector. Specifically, the project's aim was to
1)Advocate and follow up for removal of VAT and Customs duties to some solar products and expansion of exemption list
2) Awareness raising for consistent application of taxes to solar products
3) Support REIAMA to effectively participate and help organize the National Energy Conference scheduled for 26th and 27th October 2023.

The project aims at creating the "Leave No One Behind" Working Group would provide a platform to convene REIAMA members in order to promote innovation, share lessons learnt and explore future opportunities that can help the poorest and most vulnerable access off-grid solar solutions. The WG would:
•    Agree how to define those who are being left behind and determine why.  For example:
o    People living in extreme poverty
o    People living in areas of conflict or humanitarian settings
o    People living in nascent off-grid solar markets
o    Vulnerable populations
•    Explore key barriers preventing energy access by the poorest and most vulnerable, what actors are currently doing to overcome them and what other support is needed to reach them
•    Uncover innovative business models that are currently having the most impact on reaching those people being left behind, or are showing particular potential
•    Profile and discuss program interventions that are designed to reach the poorest and most vulnerable e.g. end-user subsidies, REACH etc
•    Assess current methods used to track progress on LNOB, highlight gaps and opportunities to fill any data gaps
•    Co-design calls to action and communication outputs around the value and potential of the sector to efficiently reach those who are being left behind, and the funding, programmatic support and innovations needed

The aim of the cooperation project is to ensure that companies in the solar industry in Zambia and Malawi are benefiting from improved framework conditions and contributing to a greater dissemination of solar-based energy solutions in their countries.    The following are the anticipated project results:
1. The partner associations are in regular contact with their
members, know their needs and concerns and are in an
organizational position to provide targeted support to member
companies.
2. The partner associations have developed solid foundations for the
development of needs-orientated service offerings for their
members.
3. The partner associations are recognized as competent contacts in
the solar industry and have increased their visibility.
