The Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA) successfully organized Malawi’s first GRC Renewable Energy Workshop on 13 March 2024 in Blantyre, bringing together 86 participants from government institutions, private sector companies, financial institutions, academia, civil society organizations, and development partners. The national opening ceremony for the GRC workshop series was officiated earlier in Lilongwe by the Minister of Energy, Honourable Ibrahim Matola.
The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, explore innovative renewable energy technologies, discuss sustainable business models, and identify financing and policy opportunities to accelerate energy access in Malawi. Discussions highlighted opportunities in hydrogen energy development, expansion of mini-grids for rural electrification, strengthening regulatory enforcement, improving access to finance for bankable energy projects, and promoting gender-inclusive energy solutions.
The engagement strengthened collaboration among renewable energy stakeholders and laid the foundation for continued sector coordination through communities of practice focusing on financing, mini-grid development, policy improvement, and gender mainstreaming.
