Executive Abstract: GRC Impact Magazine (Issue 01, March 2026)

The inaugural edition of the GRC Impact Magazine provides a comprehensive overview of the Global Renewables Centre (GRC) hosted by the University of Strathclyde and its collaborative efforts to accelerate a just, sustainable energy transition across three African partner nations: Zambia, Malawi, and Rwanda.

Operating on a philosophy of mutual "South-South-North-South" knowledge exchange, the GRC moves beyond traditional aid by functioning as a hub for capacity building, innovation, and strategic networking. The magazine details how this model fosters local ownership and supports Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).

Key thematic areas covered in this issue include:

Zambia Focus: Highlights the work of the Zambia Renewable Energy Association (ZARENA), including the "Solar for Climate Resilience and Productive Use" (S4CRPU) project in Kazungula, which utilizes solar-powered irrigation to secure food systems. It also covers ZARENA’s capacity-building efforts through its Mentorship Programme, as well as the engagement of youth through the ZARENA-UNZA Student Chapter and STEM workshops for girls.

Malawi Focus: Features the Renewable Energy Industries Association of Malawi (REIAMA), emphasizing the development of solar microgrids to bridge the urban-rural energy divide. The section also reports on the National Energy Conference, where stakeholders discussed policy coherence, blended climate financing, and the nation’s Vision 2063 energy roadmap.

Rwanda Focus: Showcases the collaboration between the Energy Private Developers Association (EPD) and the GRC to foster an investment-friendly policy environment. It highlights the success of the "Renewable Energy for Sustainable Growth" (RE4SG) conference, industrial attachment programs for graduates, and advancements in e-mobility and clean cooking solutions.
